Event of the Century | Happy Birthday Broward County THE event of the century is TODAY, October 1, 2015,  in Broward County. A massive Happy Birthday to Broward County. Here is a brief history of our home county. Broward County was named after Napoleon Bonaparte, no not that one but Napoleon Bonaparte Broward, who was the state's governor from the year 1905 to 1909. Way back in 1915 to be exact, Palm Beach County to our north and Dade County in the south each contributed equal portions of land and Broward County was born.   Did you know the original name intended for Broward County was Everglades County, my opinion on that one, they chose the wrong name. Events In Fort Lauderdale | Culinary Delights The upcoming weather this weekend is forecast to be a mixture of scattered thunderstorms and rains on both Saturday and Sunday.  So with that in mind, I am heading indoors for my selection of events in Fort Lauderdale. All events this weekend will  be culinary based. In short, I will review several local restaurants worth a visit.

Event In Fort Lauderdale  | Three Must Attend Venues Can you feel the autumn breeze in the air? No, me neither but a girl can always dream! It seems at this time of the year; there is a slight nibble of holiday anticipation in the air. The following events in Fort Lauderdale set me in the mood for the journey into the holiday spirit. First on the agenda, The Fort Lauderdale Arts and Crafts Show…. think holiday presents. My sources tell me there are 65 artisans signed up to market their wares this weekend. Events in Fort Lauderdale | National Drive Electric Week Little by little things change. Some for the good and some not so much. This event in Fort Lauderdale falls into the first category. As our climate and environment around us has, shall I say, disintegrated in front of our eyes many are taking a stand to right the wrong. Hey, let’s not get too heavy here. This epic event in Fort Lauderdale slowly and but surely should change the mindset of our younger generation, the citizens of tomorrow I believe change and attitudes can be changed and amended if you involve children. And you ask, what in the world is she talking about… I rant on about the use of electric cars. And yes you got it, National Drive Electric Week commences on Saturday and lasts through to September 20, 2015.

Last week, I posed several must attend events in Fort Lauderdale. This week I am heading further afield into Broward County to present more events in Fort Lauderdale and beyond this Labor Day Weekend 2015. First I will head over to Davie. Flamingo Gardens, located on wait for it…. Flamingo Road is offering half-price entry this Labor Day 2015. Included in this adventure are a Native Bird Festival and a narrated tram tour of the grounds. Of course attendees can all enjoy many botanical attractions on offer including the famous Flamingo in all their glory. One word comes to mind when I visit Flamingo Gardens…Zen. If you have never ventured over to Flamingo Gardens, I have no hesitation in recommending this attraction to you. It is well worth the money and effort in getting there, I promise.

Do you remember as a child the thrill of the big top? The red and white topped tent that meandered into town? The circus, mainly presented by Barnum and Bailey infused the air with a palatable thrill each and every time they came to our area? Over the years, there have been many of these events in Broward County.  I am sure many of my generation recall the clowns, acrobats, trapeze acts, musicians, tightrope walkers, unicycles and my absolute favorite, the tightrope walkers. And I will never forget the smell of popcorn.,, Move forward to the 21st century and some things change and thank goodness, many things stay the same. Arriving at our doors is the world  famous Cirque Du Soleil, the largest theatrical production company in the world. This company’s productions, in my opinion, are the continuation and development of the old time circus.

To many, the epitome of 20-century art is the infamous Pablo Picasso. This week's event in Fort Lauderdale takes us to the NSU Art Museum located at 1 East Las Olas Boulevard. Lucky us, all Broward County residents and visitors alike, are privy to his collection of “Painted Ceramics and Works on Paper” from the years 1931 to 1971. The collection includes 72 modern day works of art including 14 etchings. Many of these items are owned by the Museum of Art in Fort Lauderdale while others are on loan from world wide collectors. A bit of background on Pablo Ruiz Y Picasso includes the following: He was born in Spain in 1881. He spent most of his adult life, working as a painter and sculpture. He also designed theatrical stages in addition to being a poet and playwright. Along with Georges Braque he co-founded the art form of collage; Assembling magazine, ribbons, paint, newspaper clippings, and other art items to create a new image. Sadness and nostalgia are reflected in his early works. These emotions are obvious to any atten[mortgage mortgage_term="30"]ding this event in Fort Lauderdale. This sentiment, it is said were brought about by the death of his seven-year-old sister.

Fort Lauderdale Event | South Florida Book Festival I simply adore a good book. Each year I look forward to this Fort Lauderdale Event, the South Florida Book Festival. Whether I am reading at the poolside, at my local Starbucks or snuggled up in bed, I enjoy the journey taken when I have a book between my ten digits.  And kindly note, I said a book, not some computerized version of the reading material. I like a book with pages. A book takes me back to the bygone days when life was slower and a bit more gentle. This week’s Fort Lauderdale Event, the South Florida Book Festival is off and running this weekend. The well-renowned journalist and television host, Travis Smiley will be in attendance… need I say more!!

Back in time, not so long ago produce, namely fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry and fish were all purchased in open-air farmers markets. These marketplaces were typically gathering places for the neighbors near and far. They were “The Fort Lauderdale Event” to attend. At these outdoor markets, local merchants were able to sell their locally grown products.These venues took place the world over. Somehow under the guise of “progression” these quaint gatherings were retired. But times have changed and all that was old is new once again. And to me, YEAH!! With the advent of a healthy conscientious mindset, we now see the re-birth of the local Farmers Market.
