Events In South Florida | Gambling Yes indeed we live in an area that is populated by many Indian reservations. I could go on about how their homesteads were invaded all those years ago but trust me; it is best if I steer clear of that topic!

Events in Broward County | Labor Day This year Labor Day trickles over into September, the seventh of September to be exact. Planning ahead, this blog post will review the events in Broward County that are taking place on this long awaited holiday weekend. But first… And as you know there is always a first, let's discuss the true meaning of this festive weekend. Labor day is a celebration of the American labor movement. It is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of all workers, the backbone of our society. It first became a national day in the year 1887 and passed a law by President Grover Cleveland. The official day of celebration, the first Monday in the month of September.

Events In Hollywood The art of glassblowing is traditionally not associated within the shores of South Florida. One is more likely to view a skilled craftsman performing his art in the ancient cities of Venice and Milan. Ah alas, this centuries old technique can be found just down the road from Fort Lauderdale. This craft is one of the topics of my discussion this week’s events in Hollywood. On most Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays evenings between the hours of 7 pm and 10 pm there is a free glassblowing demonstration at a studio in the Visual Arts Pavilion. This studio is located in the heart of Hollywood, at Youngs Circle, in the ArtsPark. I would suggest confirming the times and dates of this event in Hollywood by contacting 954.732.7231.

Fort Lauderdale Event | South Florida Book Festival I simply adore a good book. Each year I look forward to this Fort Lauderdale Event, the South Florida Book Festival. Whether I am reading at the poolside, at my local Starbucks or snuggled up in bed, I enjoy the journey taken when I have a book between my ten digits.  And kindly note, I said a book, not some computerized version of the reading material. I like a book with pages. A book takes me back to the bygone days when life was slower and a bit more gentle. This week’s Fort Lauderdale Event, the South Florida Book Festival is off and running this weekend. The well-renowned journalist and television host, Travis Smiley will be in attendance… need I say more!!

I have a confession. I am mesmerized by the art of the dance. Wherever and whenever  I can get my fix of the graceful art of a body in motion, otherwise known as dancingI will travel. Be it on the television or the Hard Rock Cafe in Hollywood, Florida I am there. There is a must attend event in Hollywood this weekend, The Move On Live Tour. This event features the infamous choreographer duo of Julianne Hough and her brother, Derek. Most will recognize this brother and sister act from the television series, Dancing With The Stairs. Many “could” say I am a groupie. This is fine, I just recognize talent. The Move On Live Tour returns for its second year to the Hard Rock Cafe his Friday evening, June 28, 2015. The hotel is located at 5747 Seminole Way, off of US 411 between Griffin and Stirling Roads in Hollywood. There is one performance, held in the 5,500 seat arena commences at 8 pm.

As I continually boost, we are lucky to live here in the sunshine state. Sure our weather is fabulous, the people friendly and the food divine but today I am going to rattle on about our location. In particular, our proximity to the Caribbean Islands. There is an event in Hollywood you must attend. I will explain in a few moments. Did you know that Jamaica is a mere 560 miles to our south? The Bahamas a skip and a jump at 181 miles due southeast. To visit the island of Trinidad one only has to travel four hours by plane. Pretty close right? Think of all the cultural differences, the food, the flair, the music and the lifestyle that is very diverse from ours. Simply Magnifique! The sad part of visiting these exotic places is the time it takes to travel to your final destination. The initial journey begins with the car ride to the airport, the parking of your car, flights, hotels and this is all before you eat and have a long cool drink. Not only is it time-consuming, but it can get costly.
