Miami Marlins on Labor DayEvents in Broward County | Labor Day

This year Labor Day trickles over into September, the seventh of September to be exact. Planning ahead, this blog post will review the events in Broward County that are taking place on this long awaited holiday weekend.

But first…

And as you know there is always a first, let’s discuss the true meaning of this festive weekend.

Labor day is a celebration of the American labor movement. It is dedicated to the social and economic achievements of all workers, the backbone of our society. It first became a national day in the year 1887 and passed a law by President Grover Cleveland. The official day of celebration, the first Monday in the month of September.

Now onto my list of events in Broward County taking place this labor day, 2015:

To start the festivities why not stop by the Yankee Clipper Hotel, now known as B Ocean Resort adjacent to Fort Lauderdale Beach? Sip your favorite cocktail while enjoying the Medu Sirena and Aquacats Mermaid Show at The Wreck Bar at B Ocean Resort, Fort Lauderdale. Hours of operation at this establishment commence at 5:30pm.The show starts at 6:30 PM.

This will be the last weekend to venture into the “GOOSEBUMPS: The Science of Fear” exhibit at the Museum of Discovery and Science in Fort Lauderdale. Families can participate in interactive challenges that will test their fears while teaching them the science behind the reactions of fear. Sounds like a mental endurance test.

What says summertime more than the favorite American pastime:  baseball? Take your little sluggers out to the ballgame and watch the Miami Marlins take on the New York, played at Marlins Park on September 6 at 1:30 pm.  The  tickets start $24.00. Veterans, military personnel, first responders and military citizens are invited into the game free of charge.

Whether you are heading out of town, plan on attending one or more of these events in Broward County, or simply firing up the barbeque in your own backyard Kathleen and I wish you a joy-filled Labor Day Weekend.
