Event in South Florida | The International Chocolate Festival Sometimes it is simply necessary to drive the distance to a must-attend event in South Florida. This weekend I suggest everyone travel south on Interstate 95, across the county line into Dade, and head down to one of my favorite places on the planet- The Fairchild Tropical Botanic Gardens. Located at 10901 Old Cutler Road in Coral Gables, the Fairchild Tropical Botanic Garden is hosting her annual event of deliciousness, The Tenth Annual International Chocolate Festival. The event, an ode to your sweet tooth and a chocoholics pot of gold at the end of a rainbow takes place this Friday January 22, Saturday January 23 and Sunday January 24 from 9:30 am to 4:30 pm.

Events In Fort Lauderdale | Recovering After The Festivities Yeah yeah, 2016 is upon us. New Year's Resolutions and all that other palava. If you are like me, the December festivities have taken their toll on me. I want to relax, not go near a mall or shopping center and stay clear away from chocolates, cakes, wines and well, you know. I have decided that the events in Fort Lauderdale I attend will be all about well-being and frankly all about me. Living in Fort Lauderdale getting back on track from the holiday festivities is quite easy (big sigh of relief). Having said that, I have decided to use the offerings on Groupon this month and really pack my month with well deserved luxuries.

When all the rushing around, shopping and food preparation comes to a finale and one would hope it was all worth it. This week on this “ Countdown to Christmas post I thought I would give you a glimpse of holiday events around the world. Of course, this includes our very own event in Fort Lauderdale, the Winterfest Parade sponsored by the Seminole Indians. In Caracas, the capital city of Venezuela, local people follow a tradition of rollerskating to early morning church services commencing on December 16 right through Christmas Eve. The roads are closed to traffic to make the roadways safe for people to skate.

Event in Fort Lauderdale | Black Friday Shopping I have been curious about Black Friday. So I put my digits to the keypad to conduct some research. When did this shopping extravaganza, this pumped up event in Fort Lauderdale commence? Is it an official holiday? How did this day after Thanksgiving get its name? Are we the sole country on the planet that includes this shopping day of pure madness on her calendar. Let me reveal what I found out… Black Friday, now known to many a retailer (and their prospective banks!) as the start of the holiday season was born on the fourth Friday in November. It started way back in the early 2000’s  but got fully ingrained in our physique in the year 2005.
