Home Price Movement Showing up for 2017   Subdued home price growth estimates for 2017 are increasing as end-of-year data becomes available, indicating a slight showing of movement in the year ahead. CoreLogic, most recently, bumped up its price projection to 4.7 percent year-over-year based on November 2016 prices, which were 1.1 percent higher month-over-month and 7.1 percent higher year-over-year. The 4.7 percent projection is an increase from CoreLogic's 4.6 percent projection given in October. "Last summer's very low mortgage rates sparked demand, and with for-sale inventories low, the result has been a pick-up in home price growth," says Dr.  Frank Nothaft, chief economist for CoreLogic.

Events In Fort Lauderdale | Recovering After The Festivities Yeah yeah, 2016 is upon us. New Year's Resolutions and all that other palava. If you are like me, the December festivities have taken their toll on me. I want to relax, not go near a mall or shopping center and stay clear away from chocolates, cakes, wines and well, you know. I have decided that the events in Fort Lauderdale I attend will be all about well-being and frankly all about me. Living in Fort Lauderdale getting back on track from the holiday festivities is quite easy (big sigh of relief). Having said that, I have decided to use the offerings on Groupon this month and really pack my month with well deserved luxuries.

Weekend Event- Fleet Week Port Everglades 2015 Let us see what will tickle our fancy for this coming weekend event in Fort Lauderdale… Without becoming too redundant, we are SO lucky to live in and around Fort Lauderdale. Forget the sun, delightful weather, restaurants, culture and on and on. We should all wear the badge of pride as we are host to the Human Fleet Week Port Everglades. Before I dive further into this event, I pose a several questions to my readers. How many years have we, in Broward County, been host to this event?

Well, it is Wednesday again and believe it or not, it is nearly May. As always, we are planning ahead for this coming weekend and the events Fort Lauderdale has to offer us. South Florida  provides an exciting lifestyle as there are numerous venues and things to do. As in most large metropolitan areas, there are vast opportunities to have family fun and learn something new. Center stage, so to speak is a travelling exhibit entitled: Brain: The World Inside Your Head. This exhibit examines our organic mission control, our onboard computer so to speak, our brain a.k.a gray matter. Unlike this man made computer that I sit feverishly typing away on, our brain creates every movement, thought, idea and simple action we create. In a nutshell, our brain creates our life and as the title of the exhibit indicates, our brain creates “The World” inside our very own head.

By Suzanne De Vita Signaling growing confidence in the housing recovery, a majority of Americans once again named real estate the best long-term investment – a trend now continued for two consecutive years, according to a recently released Gallup poll. Real estate edged out long-term investment options like stocks/mutual funds, gold, savings accounts/CDs and bonds, with 31 percent of Americans favoring housing for long-term gains. Twenty-five percent of Americans named stocks/mutual funds as the best investment long-term. Gold dropped from frontrunner in 2011 and 2012 to third, while savings accounts/CDs fell to 15 percent. Bonds dipped to just six percent. The findings represent a significant change in consumer sentiment akin to the ongoing recovery. Notably, more Americans preferred savings accounts/CDs in 2012, as financial security remained critical for many in the wake of the crash.

Housing is an important source of economic growth. As of the first quarter of 2014, housing’s share of gross domestic product (GDP) was 15.5 percent, with home building yielding 3 percentage points of that total. Housing-related activities contribute to GDP in two basic ways. The first is through residential fixed investment (RFI). RFI is effectively the measure of the home building and remodeling contribution to GDP. It includes construction of new single-family and multifamily structures, residential remodeling, production of manufactured homes and brokers’ fees. For the fourth quarter, RFI was 3 percent of the economy.
