Back in time, not so long ago produce, namely fruits, vegetables, meats, poultry and fish were all purchased in open-air farmers markets. These marketplaces were typically gathering places for the neighbors near and far. They were “The Fort Lauderdale Event” to attend. At these outdoor markets, local merchants were able to sell their locally grown products.These venues took place the world over. Somehow under the guise of “progression” these quaint gatherings were retired.

But times have changed and all that was old is new once again.

And to me, YEAH!!

With the advent of a healthy conscientious mindset, we now see the re-birth of the local Farmers Market.

There are many Fort Lauderdale events, namely farmers market sprinkled around Broward County. They typically take place over the weekend. However you can see a sprinkling of them throughout the week.

Here is a list I have put together:

Saturdays

• Plantation Farmers Market, takes place year-round, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m Saturdays, Volunteer Park,12050 W. Sunrise Blvd., Plantation,Telephone- 954-452-2558
• Pompano Citi Centreis hosted most Saturdays in the summer to August 29. The operating  times are 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. As I have found they are “most Saturdays” it is a good time to contact them at 954-943-4683.
• The Yellow Green Farmers Market. This is an indoor venue, year-round and is held at 1940 N. 30th Road in Hollywood, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Contact them here at 954-513-3990.
• Wilton Manors Green Market. Again,held most Saturdays so here is the telephone number:  (954) 531-5363 to contact them. This event commences at 9 a.m. and runs to 2 p.m. The address is 2020 Wilton Drive.
• Coral Springs Green Market, most Saturdays 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.and is held at 9400 W. Sample Road, 561-929-0237 (check to confirm).

Sundays

• Hollywood, Josh’s Organic Garden, 101 N. Ocean Drive, Hollywood, year-round 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. most Sundays, 954-456-3276… right on the Atlantic Ocean!!
• Las Olas Sunday Market, Held year-round at 333 E. Las Olas Boulevard, Fort Lauderdale, most Sundays 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
• The Yellow Green Farmers Market, indoor venue, year-round 1940 N. 30th Road, Hollywood, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays, 954-513-3990
